Toolkit # 7: Family Engagement
Strong parental involvement with schools is associated with academic achievement, regardless of socio-economic status or parent education. Click here to learn about practices that promote family engagement at the school level.

The new West Virginia Department of Education Policy 4373 includes requirements for technical assistance, training and staff development on topics related to mental health, school climate and social-emotional learning. Review a list of recommended topics, and locate West Virginia and general staff development resources for your school.



“Expanded school mental health” refers to programs that build on core services typically provided by schools. Expanded School Mental Health is a framework that:
  • includes the full continuum of prevention, early intervention and treatment
  • serves all students
  • emphasizes shared responsibility between schools, mental health service providers and other community partners
